METEORITES OVER DONEGAL LIGHT UP THE NIGHT SKY

first_imgA  meteorite shower over Co Donegal lit up the sky over the county late last night.Several people reported seeing the event which happened three hours ago, at around 11pm.The site was also spotted over western Scotland. The meteorite shower sparked a number of phone calls to Coast Guard stations both here in Donegal at Malin Head and to stations in western Scotland.Christopher Ferry in Falcarragh told us: “It happened at 11 o’clock; I noticed a green light in the sky and then it started breaking up.“It lasted for three or four minutes.”Lorraine Kerrigan was driving through the Barnesmore Gap. She said: “It was spectacular. I pulled over to watch it.” Clyde Coastguard said it had received a “flurry” of calls reporting flares seen in Drummore, Airdrie and Brodick on Arran.A spokeswoman said: “When we get it all over and at the same time then we attribute them to meteorites.
