Man City legend rejects ‘one man team’ claims following Champions League heroics

first_imgManchester City legend Dennis Tueart insists the Blues’ character to progress to the Champions League knockout stages without Sergio Aguero disproved recent claims they are a one man team.City have endured a somewhat indifferent run of form throughout the early stages of this season, with Argentine star Aguero carrying the side at times with 19 goals in all competitions.Doubts were raised over their chances to progress in Europe’s premier club competition, therefore, when the striker was ruled out of Wednesday’s must-win clash at Roma after suffering a knee injury in the Premier League. But – despite missing a host of other key first-teamers – Manuel Pellegrini’s men certainly delivered as Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta found the net in a 2-0 victory. And Tueart believes Pellegrini has a team to be reckoned with after booking their place in the last 16.“We have a really big squad and they proved they can deliver as a team with the win at Roma,” he told The Sports Bar.“We know City don’t have to rely on the likes of Aguero, [Vincent] Kompany, [David] Silva and [Yaya] Toure to get results now.“Individual belief will be growing game by game and other teams will be thinking: ‘If anybody goes to Rome and wins 2-0 they got to have something about them’.“And with Aguero, Silva, Kompany and Toure all coming back, I think we’ll certainly have a team to be reckoned with, that’s for sure.”last_img
