Tourney caps GSA homecoming weekend

PHOTO COURTESY JENNIFER TRAUBBLUE HILL — Some 80 golfers — including George Stevens Academy alumni, students, parents, faculty and friends — took part in the annual Duane B. Gray ’64 Memorial Golf Tournament on Sunday at the Blue Hill Country Club as part of GSA’s homecoming weekend.Community Pharmacy of Blue Hill served for a second year as lead sponsor of the event.Pharmacist Tom Gray, a 1979 GSA alum and nephew of the late Duane Gray, spoke during lunch to the players, many of whom had family or community connections to Duane and have been loyal supporters of the tournament named in his memory.A volunteer committee led by GSA golf coach and BHCC manager Dwayne Carter and GSA Trustee and Development Committee Chairman Phyllis Taylor organized the tournament, which was supported by hole sponsorships and other contributions from more than 50 local businesses such as hole-in-one sponsors Darling’s and Stanley Scooters.This is placeholder textThis is placeholder textProceeds from the event benefit GSA’s annual fund, which provides essential funding for academic programs, arts, athletics as well as upkeep of buildings and grounds.Also during homecoming, a soccer building given by family and friends of Duane Gray — and built in large part by Duane’s son, Adam Gray — was dedicated in his memory.
