A public hearing to accept public comment about the reclassification will be held on Jan. 21 at UNC Asheville. Visit the Riveter website here.  The Sandy Bottom Preserve, located along the French Broad River and Brevard Road in Asheville, has been offered greater protection by the N.C. Division of Water Resources. The new classification offers additional protection to wetlands of exceptional or national ecological significance, Adriene Weaver, environmental senior specialist with the Division of Water Resources told the Citizen-Times.  The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center is offering fishing-focused workshops for people of all skill levels in February. Sandy Bottom Wetlands in Asheville’s Bent Creek is ecologically significant and will receive protection  Feb. 15- Intermediate Fly-Fishing Workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Open to ages 13+. Students 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Feb. 29- Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Fly-Fishing Workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Open to women ages 18+. The workshop provides an overview of fly-fishing, including casting, landing a fish, knots and equipment setup, in both classroom and outdoor settings. A $20 fee covers instruction, equipment, lunch, drinks and snacks.center_img Feb. 1- Beginning Fly-Fishing Clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Open to ages 13+. Students 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Fishing workshops offered in Fayetteville, NC this February Feb. 5-7- Beginning Fly-Tying Workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night. The workshop will teach students how to complete six fly patterns over eight hours of instruction. Open to ages 12+. Students 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. A new 40,000-square-foot indoor bike park and rock climbing gym called the Riveter will hold a free grand opening on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Located just down the road from Sierra Nevada in Mills River, the facility is located on a 10-acre working farm and is the first indoor bike park and climbing gym combo in the country. In addition to climbing, biking and farming, the Riveter also boasts a set of outdoor flow lines, a yoga studio, a conference room and community meeting spaces, a libation station and a retail shop. The outdoor mecca opens their doors to the public full-time on Monday, Feb. 10. “This is not just a climbing gym and this is not just a bike park,” co-founder Elizabeth Jackson said in a press release. “This is a community built around our mutual love for outdoor adventure.” The workshops are open on a first-come, first-served basis and interested parties should sign up online.
