EPL champions Leicester to receive trophy from 97-year-old superfan

first_imgNewly-crowned Premier League champions Leicester City will be presented with the trophy after their final home game of the season against Everton on Saturday. Captain Wes Morgan will lift the Cup in front of almost 32,000 fans inside the King Power Stadium with a very special lady getting the chance of a lifetime to do the honours.Gladys Kenney is 97-years-old and she is probably the oldest living Leicester fan in the world. Atleast until two years ago, she was the oldest season ticket-holder in Leicester. Gladys will be present in the stadium and possibly even get a chance to hand over the trophy to Wes Morgan. Her grandson Steve Worthy won a competition for the right to present the trophy to the new champions by citing Mrs Kenney as the embodiment of the “spirit of the game”. But such is her dedication towards the Foxes that she tuned into the radio every they played.”She was really sad that she missed out, though she listens to the match on the radio every Saturday. But being there for the trophy presentation really will be a once in a lifetime thing,” Kenney’s 39-year-old doting grandson added.Also, on Saturday, Morgan’s name will be added to the likes of Manchester United’s Roy Keane, Arsenal’s Tony Adams and Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany, some of the other inspirational captains to have got their hands on English soccer’s biggest prize.”I’m just going to try and hold back the tears,” Morgan told AP. “I think it’s going to be very emotional. Camas loses to Searcy Ark in Small Business Revolution contest

first_imgCAMAS — Camas won’t be featured on the fourth season of “Small Business Revolution — Main Street,” an online show that gives a small town a $500,000 grant to give makeovers to local businesses. Searcy, Ark., will be featured in the season airing this fall, the show’s producers announced on Tuesday.The show’s hosts, Amanda Brinkman and former ABC reality show star Ty Pennington, will spend six months getting to know Searcy and building the improvements. The eight episodes will air this fall.Camas was among six finalist cities nominated to appear on the show, and the city’s business owners, residents and city officials packed Liberty Theatre on Tuesday afternoon to hear the winner announced. Downtown Camas Association director Carrie Schulstad welcomed people and talked about the campaign process as the crowd waited for the 4:30 p.m. announcement.Those in the theater watched a pre-recorded video on the web series’ Facebook page to find out which of the finalists would be the winner. More than 1.6 million votes came in, Brinkman said in the video. After she announced Searcy as the winner, a few groans could be heard before a round of applause broke out in the darkened theater.Campaign seasonTuesday’s news comes after a four-month campaign effort in which Camas and other cities vied to be chosen as this season’s featured small city.
