Governor Wolf and Pa. National Guard Senior Leaders Commend Soldiers Headed to the Middle East

first_img Press Release Governor Tom Wolf commended about 900 soldiers with the Pennsylvania National Guard’s 28th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade (ECAB) for their sacrifices as they prepare to deploy to the Middle East in support of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). The soldiers are based in Lebanon and Cambria counties. In order to protect the health of the soldiers, Gov. Wolf, Maj. Gen. Anthony Carrelli, Pennsylvania’s adjutant general and head of the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, and other senior leaders provided video messages of support for the troops.“When the majority of this state, the country and the world temporarily shut down because of the virus, you continued to serve,” said Gov. Wolf. “You put your families and careers on hold. And now, we are asking you to do just that again. I know in my heart that you will complete this mission with the same level of dedication and commitment that you have demonstrated in previous deployments, domestic operations and your intense training.”“These past few months have been so difficult for these soldiers and their families. While most of the world was under quarantine during the worst of this pandemic, the ECAB was training every day,” said Carrelli. “You all put your nation first and we appreciate your sacrifice and hard work to get the ECAB to this point. We are proud of your service and look forward to your safe return following another successful deployment.”Wolf and Carrelli also addressed the families of the soldiers, saying that they also experience incredible sacrifice when their loved ones are deployed, and that Pennsylvania is here to help families through these challenging times. The ECAB will deploy with 500 soldiers from other states to provide Army air operations, including transport and medivac services in support of CENTCOM. The unit will head to Texas in July before an approximately nine-month tour of duty overseas.“They have endured so much to get ready for this deployment but they are some of the finest, well-trained, resilient, professional soldiers that I have ever experienced in my 37 years as an enlisted soldier and officer,” said Col. Howard Lloyd, ECAB commander. To view the video messages and learn more about this deployment, go to https://www.dvidshub.net/unit/28CAB.Ver esta página en español. Governor Wolf and Pa. MAN WHO STABBED BROTHER-IN-LAW AT CHAPEL IS JAILED

first_imgWard was found guilty of assault causing harm after he stabbed his brother-in-law.A MAN who stabbed his brother-in-law as he arrived for a memorial Mass has been jailed for ten months.Martin ‘Mattress’ Ward stabbed Michael McDonagh – who is married to his sister –  in the grounds of the Church of the Irish Martyrs in Letterkenny on June 26th, 2012. Letterkenny District Court had heard how Ward, 33, tried to stab Mr McDonagh up to a dozen times through the window of his carMr McDonagh, his wife Ann and their children arrived at the second anniversary mass for Mrs McDonagh’s late brother-in-law Charlie who had drowned. However just seconds after leaving his wife off to the front door of the church, Mr McDonagh was attacked. The father-of-six eventually struggled out of the passenger seat of the Ford Galaxy car and ran to a nearby shop where the shop-owner locked him in a room until the Gardai arrived.Mr McDonagh claimed the issue had arisen following a previous dispute the accused had with his brother John Joe.The victim said he feared for his life saying he still finds it difficult to get over his ordeal.“It’s hard to get asleep at night thinking about someone stabbing you through a window,” he said.Martin Ward, of 45 Ard Na Ri, Letterkenny, claimed he was nowhere near Co Donegal on the day of the alleged stabbing. He claimed he was hunting hares and rabbits with a friend in Thurles where he was living.Today Judge Paul Kelly, who had heard the case, refused a request from defence solicitor Patsy Gallagher for Ward to be dealt with by way of a suspended sentence or community service order.Mr Gallagher said the family dispute had erupted out of a trivial matter over who had bought a pint in a pub several years ago.Garda Inspector David Kelly said he was concerned that Ward would carry out such an attack sparked by a trivial matter.Judge Kelly said the attack had been “vicious and unprovoked” involving “the use of a deadly weapon.”He said only a custodial sentence was appropriate considering “the aggravated circumstances of the attack.”He sentenced Ward to 10 months in prison. The matter has now been referred back to the Circuit Court where Ward was given  a one year sentence, suspended for 7 years, in 2008 for a previous assault.MAN WHO STABBED BROTHER-IN-LAW AT CHAPEL IS JAILED was last modified: February 4th, 2014 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:attackMARTIN WARDstablast_img read more

Irish Water tapping into US and Australian expertise for Gweedore sewerage system

first_imgIrish Water is tapping into a combination of US and Australian technologies to develop the new sewerage system in Gweedore.Engineers with international suppliers are working with the Irish Water team in Donegal as they develop an innovative system for managing wastewater in the West Donegal network. The delivery partners from America and Australia were in Donegal this week as part of an intensive three-day series of engagements. Irish Water is progressing a Demonstration Project serving over 40 properties as the first phase of the Gweedore Sewerage scheme. The project team is currently constructing the main pressure sewer network associated with the Demonstration Project. The pump and pod which will be installed in homes as part of the Demonstration Project.Representatives were on hand to explain to the people who are being connected to the Demonstration Project, the business community and elected representatives in Gweedore, how the system will be installed, how it works and to answer any queries that arose. The new sewerage scheme when completed will improve the water quality in Gweedore Bay and local rivers and streams; provide better treatment of wastewater to protect the environment and ensure Gweedore is in compliance with Irish and European regulations.Following completion of these works, installation of the pods and associated works will take place at individual properties. The collected wastewater will be treated at the existing Údaras na Gaeltachta wastewater treatment plant. Irish Water’s Mark O’Callaghan explained how the system will work: “Wastewater from the house or business will flow by gravity into the pump pod. When the amount of wastewater reaches a certain level, the wastewater will be liquidised and then pumped through a small pipe away to the main network and on to the wastewater treatment plant. The innovative control system will manage the network to ensure that both the individual pods and the overall system functions properly.”Irish Water tapping into US and Australian expertise for Gweedore sewerage system was last modified: October 26th, 2019 by Rachel McLaughlinShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more

Questions to Ask When Picking a Camera Stabilizer

first_imgWhat Type of Mobility Do You Need? The next big question you need to ask yourself: what type of mobility do I need? Do you need to attach a camera to a car? Do you need to run behind or in front of a character? Or perhaps you need to get an aerial shot?By answering this question, you can determine if you need a 3-Axis Gimbal, Steadicam rig, or even a drone. While a drone itself is not a form of stabilization, there are gimbal options for just about every drone which allow you to capture amazingly smooth footage. You’ll see what I mean in this video from Black Oak Creative, which features a DJI Phantom/gimbal rig. Camera stabilizers can certainly put a dent in your budget. Here are some things to consider before making this big purchase.Top image from Tested: Steadicam inventor Garrett Brown on the set of  The ShiningMost audiences love a smooth and steady shot, but in order to capture that shot (especially when you’re on the move), you need some sort of stabilization. When looking to purchase such stabilizers for your equipment load-outs, we need to ask ourselves a few questions before we drop any cold hard cash.Do You Really Need a Stabilizer? This is the very first question that you should ask yourself. Do you really need a stabilizer? Don’t just by a stabilizer because others around you have. You need to have a sure-fire purpose for buying a stabilizer — because a quality stabilizer is going to cost you some money. If you really can’t spend the money on high-end stabilizers, then you should look at something like ReelSteady software for After Effects that allows you to stabilize your footage in post. For more on this check out this write-up on RocketStock.Video from Robert McIntoshWill You Use Stabilization Often?Another question that you need to ask yourself early on is how often you will be using stabilization. If you answer this question by saying you’ll only use the stabilizer a few times, then you really should rethink your purchase. However, if the stabilizer is something that you’ll be using over and over again, you may want to invest some serious money in a nice stabilizer rig. Just remember… whatever you purchase, there is an art to using the device. Check out this video from LOGIC FILMS as they show us the art of the Steadicam in the film Elysium. How Heavy Is Your Camera Load-Out?This is going to be a very important question that you need to answer as soon as possible. Knowing the weight of your camera load-out will determine how much you need to spend for stabilization, as not all stabilizers can accommodate heavier amounts of weight.Cheaper stabilizers can handle lighter camera loads, while the more expensive stabilizers like the MoVI M15 can handle up to 15lbs of camera load, which should cover a number of higher-end cameras. Here’s some test footage of the high-end RED EPIC from the Freefly Systems YouTube page. Setup Time and Compactness? You’ll want to also make sure that you know exactly how long the setup time is for each stabilization option. This is important information to know… you don’t want to waste shooting time trying to setup your stabilization option. Also, you’ll want to know how compact the stabilization option is as well. This information will really come in handy if you have to do any major traveling. For instance, I worked on a film last year where we used a Steadicam. I learned ahead of time how to break down the Steadicam and fit it all into a pelican case. So, if you’re using a Steadicam or Glidecam like we were, then you can find ways to make it compact enough to travel. Then you too will be able to capture great images like Allan Dixon did in the Australian Outback. What is Your Budget?Probably the most important question, other than the first two, is the question of budget. Just like with any other equipment that you have to purchase, you need to make sure that you budget appropriately for it. As we stated above, the heavier the camera load-out, the more expensive the stabilization rig will be.Once you have set aside the necessary income to purchase your preferred stabilization, then you can begin to explore the types of shots that can be achieved using your preferred option. Before you know it, you’ll be able to capture shots like Garrett Brown did for Stanley Kubrick in his 1980 film The Shining, which was one of the very first films to utilize the Steadicam… and in turn change the way we see movies.Video from  TheElstonGHave you used stabilization in your work? What types of stabilization solutions do you use? Let us know your thoughts and your experiences below.last_img read more
